On April 5, 2023, Hardin County Water District No. 1 was awarded $1,988,228 of the $6,724,558 in committed funding for utilities in Hardin County from the Cleaner Water Program. The funds allocated to Hardin County Water District No. 1 will be utilized towards providing public water service to 95 homes and extend water service into unserved areas.
“Hardin County Water District No. 1 appreciates the opportunity for this funding!” said Stephen Hogan, general manager of the Hardin County Water District No. 1. “We will utilize these grants to continue our unserved area program from 2002.”
The press release by the Office of Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman states, “Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and administered by the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority, $500 million has been appropriated since 2021 through a bipartisan agreement with the General Assembly to provide clean drinking water and wastewater grants to fund projects across Kentucky. The 2022 funding will be allocated based on each county’s proportion of the state’s population, with the exception of Jefferson County’s share, which is discounted by 50% based on its high per capita allocation from the federal act. As projects progress, the utilities will be reimbursed by Cleaner Water Program funds.”
